Sustainability?
We've got bags of it.

An important factor of climate change is carbon emissions – caused by the everyday functioning of everyday business and people. We want to help play our part in reducing our contribution, which is why we’re committed to reducing our scope 1, 2 carbon emissions. How do we do this? By monitoring our emissions via a Climate Change Agreement. To support our efforts, we’ve also reduced our gas and electricity use by investing in heat recovery technology and new manufacturing equipment, as well as educating our staff so that our whole company is on board.

To reduce our scope 3 emissions, we’re taking several actions. This means planning deliveries to minimise distributor journeys. It means maximising the use of recycled raw materials in our products. It means achieving zero waste to landfill since 2016. And most importantly, it means always innovating and developing our carbon positive GreenPE products, made of sugarcane ethanol. By reducing our reliance on fossil fuel derived polymers, we’re well on our way to being more self-reliant, and less reliant on the Earth’s precious resources.

We’re lucky enough to have built some brilliant, long lasting relationships with our suppliers over the years – creating true partnerships in the process. We’re also lucky that all the people we work with share our values, and support us all the way with our Pact for the Planet. Here’s just a few examples of how they’re helping us make the world a better place:

• Our waste partner helped us achieve zero waste to landfill, as well as training up our entire team.
• One of our partners chose us to be the UK’s first producer of polythene mailing bags using Green PE.
• Maintaining our ISO9001, ISO14001 and Investors in People accreditations is something we work hard on.
• Our delivery partners helped us reduce the number of deliveries to our sites, which in turn helped our customers by meeting their requirements with increased pallet loads and improved stock management.

Technology is helping us make huge advancements in sustainability, and we’re always striving to find new answers to help save the planet. We’ve invested a lot into making our process smarter, smoother, and greener, in several different ways:

• We’ve invested in heat recovery technology for our manufacturing facility.
• We’ve implemented low carbon technologies including LED lighting and process optimisation controls.
• We operate a Closed Loop Recycling Scheme – helping us save polythene waste and keep it in the economy, meeting the demand for products containing recycled content.
• We offer a free polythene waste collection service for our customers, paying a price per tonne of waste to encourage segregation and recycling.
• We’re always researching and developing new packaging products to make use of waste polythene, while maintaining maximum performance

We’ve been working hard towards a greener future for a while now, already seeing a 387% increase in waste material being collected and recycled. Put simply, that’s over 200 tonnes of plastic saved since the start of 2018. But we’re not stopping there.

We also pledged to help Greater Manchester achieve its carbon neutral targets by 2038. At their 2018 Summit, we said we’d do this by simply reducing our fossil fuel based plastics, and educating those we work with to make greener choices.

Our clients trusted us to help them become more sustainable, and it’s already happening. Our use of virgin polythene at our Manchester manufacturing site is significantly down, resulting in a carbon saving of 4664tCO2. That’s the equivalent of 1000 flights around the world. We’ll leave the air miles. But we’ll take the positive impact for our clients, and for the planet.
